A lifesaving Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was installed recently by the Parish Council at the Fremington Parish Hall. The equipment can be used in the event of a cardiac arrest and situating it near to the shops in Fremington could really save lives, as with someone experiencing a heart attack every minute counts to their survival. Myself and five other Councillors undertook training last week on how to use the AED alongside the issuing general first aid.
It was noted at the Parish Council meeting on 10 August that we paid for 7 Councillors to undergo the AED training, but as one Councillor failed to turn up and at least give us prior warning, we ended up wasting £50. No doubt the Councillor in question Jackie Flynn was too busy in her role as Chair of North Devon District Council to be bothered with such a trivial item but it is typical of the Conservatives of which Mrs Flynn is a prominent member, to cut our budgets and services without any concern of how this will impact on local communities, whilst actually allowing scarce resources to be wasted. A simple phone call a few minutes before the training would have allowed us to bring another Councillor on to the training.
